The THIMUN Youth Assembly (TYA) is a programme of the THIMUN Youth Network. It brings together young people from all over the world in The Hague, The Netherlands to create project-oriented, realizable, concrete action.
The TYA is an international youth think tank that works with the motto, think globally, act locally, and strives to strengthen and broaden youth participation in their own communities.
Each session consists of anywhere from 5 to 9 committees which focus on a specific issue. Past committees have included HIV/AIDS, water, the Millennium Development Goals, and the media.
Each committee is led by two Co-Coordinators. They organize the work of the committees, asking critical questions to ensure project-based outcomes are realizable, and help maintain cohesion within the 8 – 15 person committees.
The committee’s participants – that’s you – are the ones who run the Youth Assembly! It is you who develops the solutions to the pressing questions of today, it is you who networks with your local community to help execute these projects, and it is you who benefits from this multicultural setting of like-minded young people!
As the THIMUN Foundation, the parent organization of the THIMUN Youth Network, is a UN-accredited NGO, attending TYA gives you the opportunity to attend real UN Conferences as part of our delegations, establish strong bonds with like-minded young people to further assist in the execution of your own projects, and a lasting experience you’ll be wanting to repeat by the next session!
What is TYA not?
A Model United Nations (MUN) conference! TYA works without formal “rules of procedure” and is about representing yourself, not another country, or even all the young people of your country. You are your own voice, representing your own ideas. Don’t expect anything like an MUN!
Goals of TYA
- Contribute to the capacity of youth to create, develop and implement community specific projects through interactive workshops designed and delivered by youth with experience in a relevant field, professionals and scholars
- Provide the opportunity for youth to network and learn from one another in a multi-cultural setting through informal learning and the sharing of experiences
- Educate youth on global and local issues, while emphasising the role of the youth as a stakeholder, through thematic workshops, lectures and discussions
