TYA 15 Committees
The 15th session of the THIMUN Youth Assembly will host the following two working groups:
Social Tension, Conflict & Youth
“I truly believe that individuals can make a difference in Society. Since periods of change such as the present one come so rarely in human history, it is up to each of us to make the best use of our time to help create a happier world.” – Dalai Lama
Ever since the beginning of human history, there have been many examples of social tensions and conflicts. More recent conflicts and tensions have focused on religion, sexuality and sexual preference. Many others, such as conflicts based on ethnicity or race still exist today. How can we, as the youth and the next generation, bring light upon all these social tensions? The working group of Social Tensions and Conflicts will research various tensions and conflicts in the modern world and the impact they have on the society as a whole. From here, the participants will create individual projects to bring awareness to a certain tension/conflict. Participants will be able to share thoughts and collaborate ideas among one another.
Sustainable Development & Youth
The Committee on Sustainable Development & Youth provides a platform for youth from all over the globe to gather, collaborate and learn from each other. The emphasis is on working from the interests of the participants. They will develop their understanding of sustainable development issues through various assignments, feedback from coordinators and finally the intensive collaboration during TYA itself. Sustainability is a vast and multifaceted topic, which can make it seem intractable. But this Committee takes the opposite view: precisely because sustainable development is such a diverse and wide-ranging subject, everything is possible. We will be looking at examples of innovative ideas that are being implemented on the ground, as well as the international politics that provide the larger framework. Sustainable development is a young and fresh field, having become mainstreamed only since 1992. This Committee is our platform for learning how to identify and then grasp the many opportunities it presents.
